Census 2020 is Important to All Texas Communities

It’s time for the U.S. census and DFPS is adding its voice to that of other Texas state agencies to urge all Texans to take part.

Why is the census so important?

Because the results of the survey are used to determine how much funding local communities receive for key public services and how many seats each state gets in Congress. State and local officials also use census counts to draw boundaries for congressional, state legislative, and school districts.

To a fast-growing state like Texas, getting an accurate count of all residents is critically important to provide the services that Texans need.

Everyone who lives in the United States is required by law to participate. The Census Bureau is also required by law to protect their answers. The Census Bureau only uses responses to produce statistics and does not disclose any personal information.

There are three ways to be counted.

You can respond to the census online, by phone, or by mail. In March, Texas households will begin to receive mail from the Census Bureau with details on how to complete the 2020 survey.

The U.S. Census is more than a population count, it’s a way to shape the future of our communities. It’s important to you, your community, and the State of Texas.

So, stand up and be counted, and help spread the word to your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. If you use social media, be sure to include: #ShapeYourFuture.
